Shipping label CSV import error in Japan: address too long or bad postal code
Field limits by carrier, and how to fix each error by hand
You imported a shipping label CSV and the carrier says the address is too long or the postal code is wrong. This guide lists the usual causes, the field limits of each carrier, and how to fix them by hand. The last section mentions an app that checks these before you download.

Short answer
- Each carrier has its own address limit. Yamato B2 Cloud takes 4 characters for the prefecture, 12 for the city and 16 for the town and number, and a field that also holds the building name can exceed 32 full-width (64 half-width) characters (*1).
- The most common postal code and phone problem is a lost leading 0, usually after the file was opened and saved in Excel.
- Most fixes are one of three: move the building name to its own field, switch katakana and digits to half-width, and use a real hyphen between street numbers.
Limits by carrier
| Carrier and import | Address | Building name | Postal code and phone | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yamato B2 Cloud | Prefecture 4 + city/ward 12 + town and number 16 characters. A field that includes the building name: 32 full-width / 64 half-width | Separate field (16 full-width) | Postal code: 7 digits (8 characters with the hyphen). Phone: half-width digits and hyphens, up to 15 characters | *1, *2 |
| Click Post (bulk request) | Address lines 1 to 4, each 20 full-width / 40 half-width | Continues on the address lines | Postal code: 7 digits (8 characters with the hyphen) | *3 |
| Sagawa e-Hiden III | Address 1 to 3, each 16 full-width characters (half-width is converted to full-width) | Goes in address 3 (building) | Postal code: 8 characters; phone: 14 characters (half-width digits and hyphens) | *4 |
| Japan Post Yu-Pack Print R | Address 1 to 3 together: 75 full-width / 150 half-width | Counted in the total | - | *5 |
Yamato also says that addresses follow Japan Post's address data. In 保土ケ谷 the ケ must be the large one, and the small ヶ causes an error. Building and university business codes are not supported (*1).
Common causes
- The building name and room number are in the address field, so the total goes over the limit.
- Full-width katakana and digits. Half-width characters count as half, so the same address may fit.
- A space inside the address. Yamato says a space in the address can make the data unreadable and cause an error (*1).
- The hyphen in the street number is a long vowel mark or another dash. It looks the same but is a different character.
- A 6-digit postal code. 0600001 became 600001 and lost its leading 0.
- The postal code and the prefecture disagree. Often a typo or an old address.
- A note such as "(night)" or full-width digits in the phone number. A lost leading 0 can also leave 9 or 10 digits.
Fix by hand
- Split the address into town and number and building and room. Move the building part to the carrier's building field (for Yamato, the apartment/mansion name).
- If it is still too long, change katakana and digits to half-width. Sagawa converts half-width back to full-width when it counts, so this does not shorten the address there.
- Write street numbers as
1-2-3with a half-width hyphen. Do not close a space between numbers, as in1-2-3 101; split before the room number instead. - Set the Excel column to text and enter the postal code again as 7 digits with a hyphen, such as
060-0001. - Keep only digits and hyphens in the phone number, such as
03-1234-5678or090-1234-5678. Delete any note. - If the postal code and the prefecture disagree, look the address up on Japan Post's postal code search and decide which one is right.
Check before you import (Wix orders)
If the CSV comes from Wix Stores orders, the address check in the app "Japan Shipping Label CSV" runs these checks before you download. It uses the limits of the carrier you picked (Yamato B2, Click Post or Sagawa e-Hiden III) and looks for:
- A postal code that is empty or not 7 digits.
- A postal code whose first 3 digits point to a different prefecture than the address (only when both sides are certain).
- A phone number that is empty, has characters other than digits and hyphens, or is not 10 or 11 digits.
- An address or building name that does not fit the selected carrier's fields.
Free shows how many orders have a problem. Pro shows the list, with a suggested fix and its before and after. A suggested fix is offered only when the result is certain: a postal code or phone number that lost its leading 0, digits taken out of a phone number, hyphens in a street number, and for Yamato, half-width conversion of a long address or building name, or moving the overflow to the building field. A fix is never offered if the carrier's file would still cut or stop that address afterwards.
A fix is applied only when you press it, and only to the exported CSV. Your Wix order is not changed, the fixes are dropped when you reload the page, and nothing about the order is stored or sent. For Click Post and Sagawa, an address that is too long is flagged and left for you to fix by hand.

The file follows Yamato's published layout, but whether it imports in your B2 Cloud account is something only your own screen can confirm. The app screen is in Japanese.
FAQ
How long can an address be in a Yamato B2 Cloud import?
The address field takes up to 4 characters for the prefecture, 12 for the city or ward and 16 for the town and street number. If the building name is in the same field, the total can exceed 32 full-width (64 half-width) characters and the row errors. Click Post allows four lines of 20 full-width characters, and Sagawa e-Hiden III 16 full-width characters per line.
Why did the leading 0 of my postal code disappear?
Excel reads a postal code without a hyphen, such as 0600001, as the number 600001. Saving the file keeps the 0 dropped. Format the column as text and enter the 7 digits again, with the hyphen.
Can I remove all spaces from the address?
No. Yamato B2 Cloud can fail on spaces inside the address, but a space between numbers, as in 1-2-3 101, turns into a different street number when removed. Check each one by eye.
Does a fix in the app change my Wix order?
No. The fixes in the Japan Shipping Label CSV address check apply only to the exported CSV, and they are dropped when you reload the page.
