Move sold-out products to the end of a category in Wix Stores
When sold-out products stay near the top of a category, shoppers skip past things they cannot buy. Here is what Wix does on its own, and what to use when you want sold-out products moved back automatically.

Short answer
- The Wix Help Center shows no setting that moves sold-out products to the back of a category by itself. You can reorder the products of a category by hand in the dashboard [1].
- A sold-out product shows an out-of-stock notice wherever it appears [3]. The Help Center describes no change of position.
- A thread on the Wix forum asks for in-stock products first. It started in 2020, and a post from January 2025 still has no solution [2].
- If reordering by hand after every sale and restock is too much, an app can do it when stock changes.
The figure shows the category before and after. Buyable products keep their order. Only the sold-out ones move back.
1. Reorder by hand
The steps in the Wix Help Center [1]:
- Open Categories in the dashboard.
- Select the category.
- Drag the products into the order you want.
- Click Save.
If you use a category page, you can override the dashboard order in the editor: select the category page, open its settings, then the sorting tab and its product order list [1].
Where it falls short: you have to reorder after every sale and every restock. During a closure nobody does.
2. An app that does it
The Wix app Sold-out to the End moves sold-out products to the back, in the categories you switch on. It lists the buyable products first in their original order and leaves the sold-out ones out of the list, so they fall behind. It re-sorts when a stock update arrives, so a restocked product returns to its place. If one does not, "Re-sort now" does the same by hand. The order from the moment you switched a category on is saved. "Restore original order" writes the top 100 of it as the manual arrangement and switches the category off.
Before you use it:
- It works only with stores on the new product catalog (V3).
- The category page of your store must sort by manual order, or the result does not show.
- It can arrange the first 100 buyable products of a category. Wix limits a manual arrangement to 100 [4]. Products past 100 follow them newest first, mixed with the sold-out ones.
- A product counts as sold out when all its variants and all its stock locations are sold out. A product that can be pre-ordered counts as buyable.
- Of your store's data it reads only categories and stock. It never reads orders, customers or addresses.
- One category is free.

Questions
Is this the same as hiding sold-out products?
No. Sold-out products stay visible and move to the end of the category. Hiding is covered on a separate page.
Does a product with one sold-out variant move to the back?
No. Only a product whose every variant and every stock location is sold out counts as sold out. A product that can be pre-ordered counts as buyable.
I switched a category on, but the order does not change.
Check that the category page of your store sorts by manual order. Without it the result does not show.
Does it work on the older catalog (V1)?
No. It works only with the new product catalog (V3). On a V1 store the screen shows a notice and nothing is re-sorted.
Not verified
I read the Wix Help Center and the forum on 2026-10-29. I did not check the names of the sort options in the editor on screen. The app description follows the app's code and tests as of 2026-10-29. I did not watch sold-out products move back on a live store category page for this article. Wix screens and features change.
