Change History Limit for Confluence: show only the latest versions of a page
Change History Limit is a Confluence macro that lists the latest versions of the page or blog post it sits on. You choose how many to show, whether to hide minor edits, how far back to look and whose edits to include. Each version number links to that version. It only reads; it changes nothing and stores nothing.
For Confluence Cloud. Without a license the table shows the latest 3 versions; see Marketplace for pricing.
What it does
Add the macro to a page and it shows a table with the version number, who changed it, the date, and the version comment, newest first. Open the macro settings to change what it shows:
- Number of versions: 3, 5, 10, 20 or 50. The default is 5. When older versions exist, the table says they are not shown.
- Minor edits: show them or hide them. A shown minor edit carries a "Minor edit" label. When they are hidden, the macro keeps reading older versions (up to 300) until it has your number of versions.
- Version comments: show the comment column or leave it out.
- Time window: all versions, or the last 7, 30 or 90 days.
- Authors: pick up to 20 people and only their versions are listed. Leave it empty for everyone.
- Version links: each version number opens that version of the page in a new tab.
It works on pages and on blog posts. It shows the history of the page it sits on, and each viewer sees only what Confluence lets them see.
Use it, step by step
- Edit the page and type / to insert a macro. Look for Change History (limited).
- Open the macro settings and pick the number of versions.
- Choose whether to show minor edits and comments, and optionally a time window or authors.
- Save the settings and publish the page. The table appears for everyone who can view the page.
Limits
- The macro shows at most 50 versions, and an author filter holds at most 20 people.
- Version comments are cut at 300 characters.
- With minor edits hidden, the macro reads at most 300 of the page's newest versions. On a page with a very long history and mostly minor edits it can show fewer rows than you asked for, and it says older versions are not shown.
- It shows the history of its own page. It cannot list another page's history.
- Dates use your Confluence time zone.
Licensing
Without an active license the macro shows the latest 3 versions and says that choosing more needs a license. See Marketplace for pricing.
Why this exists
Confluence users have asked for control over the length of the change-history table in CONFCLOUD-32315, a suggestion open since 2014. For the longer story see How to limit the Confluence Change History macro to the last N versions.
Data and privacy
The app is read only. It reads the version list of the page it sits on (version number, who changed it, date, comment and whether the edit was minor) and shows it to the person who opens the page. It stores nothing in app storage, writes nothing to Confluence, and sends no data outside the Atlassian cloud. See the Privacy page for Hullspark's policy.
