Can Wix Stores hide out-of-stock products automatically?

You do not want shoppers to see sold-out products, and around the year-end holidays nobody has time to hide them one by one. Here is what Wix does on its own and what it does not.

  • Wix has no setting that hides out-of-stock products by itself. Wix lists it as a feature request and is collecting votes [1].
  • You hide a product, or several at once, by hand [2].
  • If you do not hide it, a sold-out product stays visible with an out-of-stock notice [3].

The figure shows the three ways to handle a sold-out product. They follow in order.

1. Hide by hand

The steps in the Wix Help Center [2]:

  1. Open Store Products in the dashboard.
  2. Select the product.
  3. Switch off the Show in online store toggle.

For several products, tick them, click Sales status, then choose show or hide in the shop [2]. You can hide a variant too, not only a whole product [3].

Where it falls short: after a restock you switch the product back on by hand. I found no setting that shows it again when stock returns. The visibility article's FAQ also lists leaving a product as out of stock as a workaround for keeping the search ranking of products you would otherwise hide [2]. In my view, around the year-end holidays, when nobody has spare hands, this is the method where forgetting to switch products back is most likely.

2. Keep it visible

If you do not hide it, a sold-out product shows an out-of-stock notice by itself. You can change the wording on the category page, in a gallery and on the product page [3]. You can add two things:

Where it falls short: sold-out products stay near the top of the category. The Wix forum has posts up to January 2025 asking to put in-stock products first. One says a hand-made "In Stock" category cannot be combined with other category filters [6].

3. Move to the end

If you want to show buyable products first without hiding anything, move the sold-out ones to the back of the category. In Wix this is a manual reorder, covered on a separate page.

To do it automatically there is the Wix app Sold-out to the End. In the categories you switch on, each stock update lists the buyable products first in their original order and moves the sold-out ones back. They stay visible. One category is free. It works only with stores on the new product catalog (V3), and the category page must sort by manual order.

Questions

Can shoppers buy a sold-out product?

No. The Add to cart button turns into an out-of-stock button. A product with pre-orders switched on can be bought as a pre-order.

Does a hidden product show again when stock returns?

I found no such setting in the Help Center. Plan to switch it back on by hand after a restock.

Hide, or move to the end?

Hide a product if you do not want shoppers to see it sold out. Keep it visible and move it back if a restock is near, or if people reach it from search.

I read the Wix Help Center and the forum on 2026-10-29. The Japanese back-in-stock article was only partly readable, so that point follows the English article. I did not hide products or change stock notices on a live store for this article. The app description follows the app's code and tests as of 2026-10-29. Wix screens and features change.
