How to do a stocktake in Wix Stores

You have counted the shelves and the numbers do not match Wix. Typing every product back in one by one gets slow once you have more than a few dozen. Here is what Wix does on its own, where it stops, and the ways to get real quantities in.

Short answer

  • A few products: type the new quantity in the Inventory tab. You can search by name or SKU, or filter by category [1].
  • The bulk update will not do a stocktake. Its options are increase by an amount, reduce by an amount, or set a new quantity, and the last one gives every selected item the same number. It handles up to 300 products or variants at once [1].
  • A different count per product: export the stock CSV, type the counts into the inventoryNew column and import it [2].
  • What is missing: a preview of what will change, and a history to go back to. The Help Center lists tracking changes to inventory as a feature request [3].

What Wix gives you out of the box

Wix’s built-in ways to change stock
ToolGood forCatch
Type in the Inventory tabA handful of products; tracked items take a number [1]One product at a time
Bulk “Update Inventory”: increase, reduce or setReceiving a delivery (“add 10 to each”) or zeroing a selection; up to 300 items [1]“Set a new quantity” sets all selected items to the same number. Tracked and untracked items cannot be mixed in one batch
Export to CSV, edit inventoryNew, importA different real count for each product or variant [2]Updates stock only; it cannot create products. No preview before the import

Untracked products only have an In stock / Out of stock status, so they have no quantity to count [1]. Turn on inventory tracking for a product first if you want to count it.

Before you count

Using the stock CSV

  1. In the site dashboard open Inventory. Select the products, or choose all products and variants when you export.
  2. Click the More Actions icon at the top right, choose Export to CSV, pick your location if you have more than one, and save the file as a comma-delimited CSV [2].
  3. Type your counts into the inventoryNew column only. Wix says edits to other columns do not affect inventory or your catalog [2].
  4. Back in Inventory, choose Import from CSV from More Actions, upload the file and click Import [2].
  5. Check the result: open Inventory and spot-check a few products, or export again and compare.

Two cautions. Opening the CSV in Excel can strip leading zeros from SKUs or change number formats, so edit it in a plain editor or Google Sheets if your SKUs look like numbers. And the export asks which locations to include while the import cannot change locations [2], so with several locations, count and import one location at a time.

Keep an untouched copy of the exported file before you edit it. Wix keeps no record of the numbers from before [3], so this copy is it.

If your product names are not in the Latin alphabet, Wix’s product-CSV article warns that such files can fail to import and suggests re-saving through Google Sheets as a comma-separated file [4]. That article is about product CSVs, not stock CSVs, so try a small file first.

If you pick an app, check four things on its listing: whether it shows the gap before writing, whether it keeps before and after numbers, how it handles products that sold while you counted, and what it limits on the free plan.

One option: our own app

I make a Wix app for this, Stocktake by Hullspark (App Market listing) [5]. It adds a page to your dashboard. What it does:

Questions

Can I set a different quantity for each product in the Inventory tab’s bulk update?

No. The bulk option “Set a new quantity” gives every selected item the same number. For different numbers per product, edit them one by one in the Inventory tab, or use the CSV import.

Which column do I edit in the Wix stock CSV?

Only inventoryNew. Wix says changes to other columns do not affect your inventory or catalog, and the CSV cannot create new products or variants.

Does Wix keep a history of stock changes so I can undo a stocktake?

Not as far as its Help Center says. Tracking changes to a product’s inventory level is listed as a feature request. Save your export from before the update.

What happens to orders that come in while I am counting?

A typed or imported count replaces the stock figure, so a sale made after you counted is not subtracted. This follows from how overwriting works; the Help Center does not discuss it. Count when orders are quiet, or re-check the products that sold.

Does the app change my stock as soon as I type a number?

No. Typing a count changes nothing. Stock is written only when you press Update stock and confirm in the dialog.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The free plan covers up to 30 products per update (a product with any number of variants counts as 1) and shows the last 30 days of history. Pro removes the product limit and keeps the full history. The price is on the Wix App Market listing.

What I have not verified

I checked the Wix claims on this page against Wix’s own Help Center articles on 2026-10-24. I did not re-test every one of them on a live store, and Wix can change how its features work.

I have run the app on a development site with a Catalog V3 store; I have not run it on a Catalog V1 store. “A count overwrites sales made meanwhile” is my reading of how overwriting works, not something Wix documents. I have not tested other vendors’ apps and name none; read their listings.
